Established in 1932, Ngong Road Forest Sanctuary covers over 1,200 hectares of lush, dry upland indigenous forest a vibrant living showcase of the ecosystem that historically carpeted the western expanse of Nairobi toward the Ngong Hills. The sanctuary is divided into two main sections: the Miotoni block to the northwest and the Racecourse/Kibera Section to the southeast (Sanctuary). We mostly conduct guided tour in the sanctuary section
As a vital ecological refuge, the forest nurtures an abundance of wildlife, including native birds, butterflies, moths, primates, and antelopes. It also forms a crucial portion of the upper catchment for the Athi and Kiserian rivers, with the Motoine (Ngong) River flowing through its grounds.
We will spend the day exploring this serene sanctuary on foot along smooth, gentle trails designed for a comfortable and relaxing birding walk. As we wander under the canopy, expect delightful encounters with local antelopes and playful monkeys along the paths.

White-starred Robin, Brown-chested Alethe, Green-backed Twinspots, Cinnamon-chested Bee-eater, Hartlaub’s Turaco, Rüppell’s Robin-Chat, Red-chested Cuckoo, Montane Nightjar, African Cuckoo-Hawk, African Crowned Eagle, African Fish Eagle, Pied Kingfisher, Narina Trogon, Yellow-whiskered Greenbul, Dark-capped Yellow Warbler, Grey-capped Warbler, Black-collared Apalis, Yellow-rumped Tinkerbird, White-headed Barbet, Amethyst Sunbird, Bronze Sunbird, Grey Heron, African Black Duck, and the Brown-backed Scrub Robin.
